FemStart has started the discussion ...

The FemStart initiative came to an official close at the end of February 2009. The initiative was funded for 2.5 years by the European Commission's DG Research. The end of the project does not mean the end of dealing with the topic, in fact, the project offered a starting block for future activities ...

The project reached a total of 522 participants at the six individual debates at universities in six different countries. A wealth of expertise was presented by those organisations which have already recognised the importance of offering targeted support to female students or graduates that have or are considering entrepreneurship as an alternative career. Possibly even more motivating were the stories told by the women who have successfully started and are still running businesses or are in the process of setting up a business. Universities considering implementing specific support measures for their students are urged to consider gender specific aspects and to refer to the recommendations offered in FemStart's four-page leaflet. The project partners have all taken FemStart as a springboard for initiating or joining new initiatives that will also contribute to increasing the number of women starting a business.

The Coordinator, Steinbeis-Europa-Zentrum, would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who has been part of this initiative or has supported it in some way.
